My submission for Blisters 2019.
Description of the piece:
When you think of women’s movements, the Suffragettes often come to mind. The documentary; ‘Feminists: What Were They Thinking?’ brought to light a mass movement of feminism in the 1970s. It was empowering to watch women from all walks of life talk of their stories and with it being recent history it had strong resonance with what is still going on today.
1975 was announced by the United Nations as International Women’s Year and 8th March International Women’s Day. International recognition of women was a huge step in history. I wanted to create imagery that is free from what you would typically associate with women’s movements and illustrate a woman in her own environment and its only until you take a closer look that you see what she stands for.
